The adage "A picture is worth a thousand words" is as true as ever in the case of your web page. Vacationers are more likely to book a home if they can envision themselves vacationing there. Most listings have a basic limit of 4 photos and then charge for additonal photos. Consider adding more photos when using a listing site as studies show that listings with multiple pictures receive about five times the number of inquiries as those with just one picture.
Exterior pictures should show your home in its environment. Take exterior pictures on a sunny, blue-sky kind of day, preferably in the spring or summer. Many vacationers who see your web page will be totally unfamiliar with the location so consider adding a picture of the nearest beach or Point of Interest. If your home has water views, by all means include them. Pictures of a deck or patio with pots of colorful flowers or a patio table set for breakfast are nice touches.
Interior pictures are essential. Imagine yourself as the vacationer trying to decide between two seemingly similar homes, but only one has interior pictures, showing a comfortable, attractively furnished interior. Which home would you choose? The living area is the most important interior shot. When taking interior pictures, avoid letting in outside light, which could wash out or darken your shot. Close draperies, turn on lights, and aim the camera at a corner rather than a flat wall (produces a more interesting photo).
